Here we need to understand the facts about fat. What is fat?

Fats are one of the three main macro-nutrients, along with carbohydrates and proteins. Fat molecules consist of primarily carbon and hydrogen atoms and are therefore hydrophobic and are soluble in organic solvents and insoluble in water. Examples include cholesterolphospholipids, and triglycerides.

The terms lipidoil, and fat are often confused. Lipid is the general term, though a lipid is not necessarily a triglyceride. Oil normally refers to a lipid with short or unsaturated fatty acid chains that is liquid at room temperature, while fat (in the strict sense) specifically refers to lipids that are solids at room temperature – however, fat (in the broad sense) may be used in food science as a synonym for lipid.

Fat is an important foodstuff for many forms of life, and fats serve both structural and metabolic functions. They are a necessary part of the diet of most heterotrophs (including humans) and are the most energy dense, thus the most efficient form of energy storage.

Some fatty acids that are set free by the digestion of fats are called essential because they cannot be synthesized in the body from simpler constituents. There are two essential fatty acids in human nutrition: alpha-linolenic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid) and linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid). Other lipids needed by the body can be synthesized from these and other fats.

Fats and other lipids are broken down in the body by enzymes called lipases produced in the pancreas.

There is a huge misconception between fat loss and weight loss. Many of us feel that the best methods to reduce fat might be starving, skipping meals, or over exerting. Finally the weighing scale shows some reduced numbers, however, It is important to understand if there was a fat loss or loss of healthy muscle.   

 

Fat is an important nutrient in our body, only thing is it should be in the required proportion to maintain a healthy body. Essential fat percentage required in women body is 12 percent and in men is 5 percent to maintain a healthy body. Amount of fat deposited or stored in the body beyond these necessary percentages can be harmful for over all body functions.

 

In fat loss practice we need to analyse and identify the required ratio of fat and unwanted body fat. There is a certain standard of fitness evaluation that must be done before starting the fat loss practice.  This evaluation can include testing of current level of fitness, postural conditions, genetic history, medical history, past chronicle illness, lifestyle, habits, mistakes in food intake and so on. Fat loss program can be determined after all the important analysis and body evaluations are done.

 

Almost 30% - 60% of the world population is obese and that number is rapidly increasing. The biggest harm is, if we realise, that some of our current patterns are developing our genetic health and we might actually be passing obesity to our next generation. It is crucial that we take right action against obesity, if we want to see our next generation problem free, more active,  with the good lifestyle, and more healthy.
